ABOUT THE TILLAMOOK ANIMAL SHELTER

Who We Are
The Tillamook Animal Shelter, Inc. (TAS) is an incorporated non-profit IRC 501(c)(3). TAS began through the compassion of a handful of Tillamook County residents in 2004. These original founders and board members shared the vision of a safe haven for the animals in need of our help in Tillamook County. With nothing but a dream, they set forth planning for a donated piece of land to place a new facility that would house and protect animals. The Tillamook County Board of Commissioners worked with TAS to stake out a piece of county property located on Brookfield Road (the fairgrounds area), and donate it to this wonderful cause. Over the past few years, the main focus has been on fundraising designated to begin the building of the shelter facility, TAS has never been an actual operating shelter. TAS has lost several original board members due to relocation but the spirit of this project has not wavered.

What's First?
TAS has signed an agreement with Tillamook County to operate the existing small, three-kennel compound located at the Tillamook Transfer Station. This kennel was never meant to be “the TAS shelter” but, it has operated as a rescue and holding area for city and county dogs who have been taken in by law enforcement due to incarceration of owners, abandonment and surrenders because of natural disasters. The kennel is very limited in capacity and currently will only be capable of housing canines however; a part-time TAS Administrator will be open to calls and concerns of citizens in regards to all types of animals. With the support of other shelters and rescue groups, TAS will help in directing callers to existing approved foster homes and/or other approved shelters in the state of Oregon and some surrounding areas of Washington and California.
